Description Original 1971 Hemi CUDA.
One of just 59 71 Hemi Cudas built for the US market with a four speed manual transmission.
Even better, this Cuda is the only documented 71 Hemi Cuda that was Executive ordered!
No this car was not factory equipped with tons of options, rather it is very lightly Optioned as it was ordered for Factory sponsered Drag Racer and Performance Car Clinic master Don Grotheer.
Don Grotheer had been sponsered by Chrysler since 1966 when he first received a parts sponsership from Chrysler. In 1968 Chrysler decided to provide Don with a full Sponsership including a 1968 lightweight Hemi Cuda and also signed him up to provide Performance Car Clinics at Chrysler Dealerships across the USA. Don was a Factory backed drag racer until the Hemi was factored out by the NHRA and Chrysler dropped their major racing program.
Don Grotheer along with the Sox and Nartin Team and Dick Landy, were instrumental in the inaugural launch of PRO STOCK racing in 1970 on behalf of Chrysler.
This particular car was provided to Don Grotheer as part of his 1971 Drag Contract with Chrysler. Don was also provided a ' body in primer' Barracuda body and a 1971 Hemi Road Runner for the 1971 Race season.
As ordered this Cuda came equipped with the 426 Hemi engine, heavy duty 4 speed manual transmission, full tinted glass, 3.54 Dana rear end, power disc brakes and the front and rear spoiler package.
A basic no frills car. No radio, no console, no power steering and even a non-remote control drivers mirror.
Please note that this car was never used as a race car and was never modified or cut up for racing purposes.
The original drive train was removed when new and were used by Don Grotheer as part of his Race Program.
The car has been recently restored to better than new condition. It received many NOS parts including a vintage NOS hemi short block. The attention to detail in the restoration of this Cuda is second to none as the photographs illustrate.
This Cuda was featured in the June 2010 Mopar Muscle Magazine.
