Description This is a real California built 1970 RS Z28 Camaro.
Often mistakenly referred to as a 1970 1/2 model due to the 'split front bumper' this Camaro is a 1970 model. The strike at General Motors delayed the introduction and production of the 1970 models until January of 1970 and this is what started the reference to many 1970 1/2 models. Traditionally car manufactures began the next year's production in August of the preceding year. The stike changed this and 1969 production continued well into the fall of 1969.
1970 also introduced the redesigned second generation Camaro. The new Camaro was a signifigant styling change from the 67-69 Camaros. The new Camaro was wider and lower with a totally new look. Unlike the first generation Ralley Sport Camaros that featured hide-away headlights as part of the RS appearance package the early(1970-1973) second generation RS Camaros featured the 'split bumper' front facia, with relocated turn signal lights between the headlights and the center grille and a rubberized and color keyed grille surround. These features were not found on the standard and most SS second generation Camaros although many many owners removed the side to side one piece front bumper and replaced it with the two short bumpers on each side of the grille opening.
This particular RS Z28 is from California and has the body to prove it. No rust issues here!
Original floor pans and frame rails. The outer sheet metal also appears to be original although there is some evidence of some collision repairs in the past.
This Car retains the factory original numbers matching LT1 engine. This is the big brother to the 1969 302 Z28 engine. The engine is a 350 cubic inch four bolt main block, 11:1 compression forged pistons, aluminum intake, 780 Holley carburetor, high performance 2.02 inch valve high compression heads, solid lifter camshaft with a factory rating of 360 horse power. Please note this is 70 HP more than the rating of the 1969 engine and rivals the best of chevies small blocks of all time!
In addition to the venerable LT1 engine this Camaro has a 4 speed muncie transmission and 4.10 ratio 12 bolt rear end with front and rear sway bars to help the cornering.
The factory color for this car is Daytona Yellow with a black deluxe bucket seat interior.
This is a solid original California car that has been repainted many years ago but never restored.
